CF Endocrinology Summit: Translating Data into Policy & Practice

Role: Conference Organizer & Fundraising Lead
Project Type: Scientific Conference, Stakeholder Engagement
Impact: Established the first-ever national CF Endocrinology Summit, influencing ongoing continuing medical education (CME) and clinical practice guidelines.

Overview

Building on insights from the CFRD pilot study, I secured funding and led the organization of the first-ever national CF Endocrinology Summit, convening 35 leading researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders to develop best practices for Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes (CFRD) management.

This initiative addressed a critical gap in CF care, ensuring that emerging data informed real-world clinical practice by integrating it into continuing medical education (CME) programming.

Key Contributions

  • Fundraising & Industry Partnerships: Secured funding from Mark Harvey, MD, ensuring financial sustainability for the summit and future educational initiatives.

  • Scientific Program Development: Co-chaired by Drs. Antoinette Moran and Melissa Putnam, the summit brought together leading CF researchers, endocrinologists, and policy influencers to align on best practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation: Organized and managed a national-level discussion focused on translating research findings into actionable clinical strategies.

  • Education & Policy Translation: Facilitated the conversion of summit findings into accredited CME content, ensuring long-term clinical impact.

Outcomes & Lasting Impact

  • Created an Ongoing, CME-Accredited Educational Program: The summit’s findings were integrated into national training for medical professionals, bridging the gap between research and practice.

  • Informed Clinical Care Standards: Established a sustained cross-disciplinary dialogue, influencing ongoing best practices in CF-related endocrinology.

  • Demonstrated a Scalable Model for Data-Driven Medical Education: Showcased how emerging research can be rapidly translated into policy and practice through stakeholder engagement and strategic dissemination.

Relevance & Broader Application

This project exemplifies the power of evidence-driven decision-making, stakeholder collaboration, and scalable education models—critical elements for advancing healthcare innovation. By successfully translating complex clinical data into real-world application, it serves as a model for leveraging research, technology, and strategic partnerships to drive system-wide improvements in chronic disease management.
